DKUH was established in April, 1994 in order to improve regional health through the advanced level of medical education, research and medical care. Based on our university motto of "Truth and Dedicated Service", 1,300 DKUH medical and hospital staff have been building to create a “patient oriented hospital”. DKUH is the largest general hospital in the Chung Nam Province, with 900 patient beds and 33 specialty clinics, some of which include Internal Medicine, Surgery, Ophthalmology, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), PM and R (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation), and Diagnostic Radiology. DKUH had also actively engaged in medical research with the Medical Laser Research Center, Life Science Research Institute, Gastrointestinal Research Unit and Bio technology Research Institute and many others.

The Hospital is Pursuing Cooperation with the Local Community

DKUH has been changing its image by cooperating with the local community and pursuing distinctive strategies. We are making every effort for patients to feel at home in the hospital, and all of the employees work together to help patients in every possible way. This is Dan Kook University Hospital's goal.
DKUH has actively set up a sisterhood relationship with the local community since its opening in 1994 in order to promote the health of community residents. DKUH provides free medical check -ups for blood pressure, blood sugar and obesity levels, to name a few. DKUH has been holding annual " Love My Community" campaigns with local public health centers. It has also supported the "Bluebird Supporters After School Class" in many ways, which was organized to nurture low income children and help them avoid having feelings of alienation or negligence.

The Hospital is Concentrating on the Characterization of Medical Treatment

The hospital has many subspecialty clinics: an Arrhythmia Coronary Artery Clinic in the Department of Cardiology, a G. I. and Biliary Endoscopy Clinic in the Department of Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases, a Spine and Coxa Clinic in the Department of Orthopedics, a Vertigo Clinic in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, a Lasik Surgery Clinic in the Department of Ophthalmology, an Early Lung Cancer Clinic in the Department of Respiratory Medicine, a Quit-Smoking Clinic in Family Medicine, a Stroke Clinic in the Department of Neurology and so on.The Rheumatology Clinic is relatively new and provides overall practices in rheumatologic diseases of community residents and the Department of Neurosurgery is now offering a new technique of platinum coil embolization for treatment of cerebrovascular diseases.

DKUH is one of the major Emergency Medicine centers in Chungcheongnam-do It is the first hospital in South Korea to have a ground-level heliport, which makes emergency transportation from nearby islands easier, and massive patient transportation possible in case of national disaster. The hospital also has an Emergency Transportation System for highway traffic accidents. The helicopter can also be used for emergency organ delivery. Furthermore, DKUH has a medical contract with the Pyeongtaek US army base, which provides various medical services to the soldiers, including a provision to transport patients via helicopter from the military base in case of emergency.

The Hospital is Cooperating with Domestic and Overseas Medical Institutions

DKUH has made agreements with the Department of Public Health, Long Jing city in Jilin Province as well as the Qing Dao Municipal Hospital in Shandong Province for medical exchange programs. it is establishing a medical cooperative program with the Public Health Department of Bota District in Shanghai, China.. For domestic projects, DKUH has been actively involved in friendships with 6 community hospitals including Cheon An Medical Center. In order to support thing, DKUH is playing an active role as a third referral hospital for maintaining a systematic cooperative relationship with local community hospitals and clinics.
